Halloween is this weekend. Will your child be a leprechaun, Cinderella, a firefighter or Batman? Just as diverse as costumes, is the variety of signs you can whisk into the year’s spookiest holiday. Here are some fun signs you can incorporate into your child’s vocabulary this holiday:
SCARED –Some kids know Halloween is all fun and play. Others feel genuine fear. Let this sign be a cue of which category your child falls into.
CANDY – Because a cute costume is only a means to sugary ends.
“TRICK OR TREAT” – This sign varies according to resources. You can combine “deceive” + “candy,” or combine “tease” + “give to me.”
PUMPKIN – To convey Jack O’ Lantern, flick your middle finger on the back of your opposing fist, as if testing its ripeness.
PLEASE – Just because Halloween is about indulgence, doesn’t mean politeness goes out the door. Use this season to teach your child how to ask nicely for sweets.
BRUSH TEETH – Just because Halloween is about indulgence, doesn’t mean dental hygiene goes out the door. Use this season to teach your child the importance of brushing.
ORANGE – This is the season’s signature color; how many places can you find it?
SHARE – If Johnny’s loot is bigger than Sally’s or Jerry’s, stress the importance of sharing candy.
SICK – Show your child what happens with too much candy, and not enough sharing.
