Imagine this…
You’re sitting at a loud coffee shop trying to have a business meeting, but the noise doesn’t bother you and you’re using ASL during the meeting.
You get a notice that there will be noisy construction done near your house starting at 6 am, but you are able sleep in until noon.
You board your plane, you see a bunch of parents holding their newborn babies, and you slept through the entire flight.
You start looking at places to live and your realtor warns you that it’s near a busy road and it gets really noisy, but hey–it doesn’t even bother you!
This is how Deaf people go on their lives around noisy places. Honestly? It’s quite blissful most of the time; not having to block out what you’re overhearing at the table next to you, or the couple at the library talking loudly or how about the person with the loud mouth chewing.
You’re able to work on your big thesis paper or business proposal in complete silence, until someone taps your shoulder or gets your attention!
A fun challenge: pop in your ear plugs for a day, and eperience your day silently. Go to a local coffee shop with a pile of work to do—you will be amazed at how much you get done.
