Have you ever had a conversation with a Deaf person and noticed there seems to be a lack of “beating around the bush”? One of the first things you may learn about Deaf culture is that being blunt is certainly the default. When talking about a third person, you may often see signs like “fat” or “beautiful” or “has a bigger face”. To the hearing world, this can be appalling, but I promise you in the Deaf world they’re just descriptors. On top of this, there is no covering up bathroom habits or other conversation that might seem a little bit personal. It may be different from the hearing world you are used to, but that’s just how the community works! It is very personable and most definitely direct and to the point.
