Interpreters and the Holidays
As the holidays are fast approaching, so are a plethora of holiday events. Tree lightings, movie showings, and light shows are just a few. If you or someone you know is planning an event, consider adding an interpreter to your list! By having an interpreter available, you make your event or business Deaf-friendly, and allow all people to be able to go enjoy the festivities. The greater Seattle area is ripe with Deaf culture. Having an interpreter at your event is great for the community, but not if the community doesn’t know about it. You will want to think ahead and remember to advertise early and often for Deaf consumers, so that they are aware of when and where your event will be held and can plan accordingly. Make clear on posters and websites that you will have an ASL interpreter available! Reserve seating at the front for Deaf patrons, and be flexible if they ask you to move the interpreter for a better sight-line. From Visually Speaking, we want to wish you happy (accessible) holidays!
